Tangled in the Web

Tangled in the Web is the tenth episode of The Penguins of Madagascar.

Synopsis

When webcams are put up in the zoo grounds, the penguins lead a breakout when Private becomes famous as Slippy, the world's most famous penguin.

Plot

The penguins realize that they are under surveillance by security cameras positioned around the zoo. The cameras are web-cameras but Skipper is convinced that they exist to steal their secrets. King Julien learns that Marlene won a lot of internet popularity contests and as a result has a lot of shiny gold trophies, but after a scandal, she is now banned from entering solo. King Julien wants to win shiny trophies, so he is determined to get them by any means.

Skipper advises the other penguins to stand perfectly still. King Julien, meanwhile, tries to get the cameras' attention by jumping on his bouncy and striking poses, but the cameras all end up looking away.

A day passes as the penguins continue to stand still, even on through the night. The next morning, Alice throws the penguins fish Private begins to lose his resolve as his hunger grows. In his mind, the youngest penguin can hear the fish attempting to lure him to come and eat. But Rico knocks some sense into Private by smacking him. Unfortunately, Private gives in and trips on a roller skate previously regurgitated by Rico, making him slip and fall with a fish in his mouth.

All across the world, people burst out laughing and start voting for Private. Many of them even flock to the zoo to see Private who is given the nickname "Slippy", much to the young penguin's dismay.

King Julien , meanwhile, enlists the help of Marlene to steal back the viewers that he believes should be watching him instead of Private. Private, meanwhile, is taken away by Alice, who puts him in a special stage for him to show off. Private gets used to the life of being rewarded for his stunts and begins purposefully entertaining the guests.

The other penguins, meanwhile, are determined to get Private back, and they decide to sneak into the "Slippy" exhibit at night. To get past the camera, Kowalski obscures it with a crude drawing of the Slippy stage while Rico digs underground.

At the same time, Marlene and King Julien put together a breathtaking show using aerial stunts and lights, and finally get some attention. However, the show goes wrong when Maurice, unable to hold the weight of Marlene and King Julien, accidentally lets go, and they fall on catapult with Mort on the other end, sending him flying.

At the Slippy stage, the penguins find Private eating some fish as Skipper declares their intention to rescue him. But Private rather enjoys his new life, and Skipper believes that he's been brainwashed. But as the penguin leader attempts to undo the "brainwashing", he soon notices Mort flying towards the Slippy exhibit.

The small lemur then crashes into the stage, knocking over the Slippy sign and destroying the exhibit. The crash also sets off a chain reaction that knocks down all of the web-cameras. One camera, however, lands on the window of the zoo breakroom and catches Alice singing, dancing and swinging her butt with a banana for a microphone. Once again, the audience is amused, and they immediately vote for Alice as the most popular "party animal".

Back at the penguins' base, Skipper welcomes Private home as Kowalski takes one of the cameras with him. Private, meanwhile, admits to missing the Slippy lifestyle, to which Skipper makes Rico slap him as he believes that the young penguin is "still a little brainwashed". Nearby, King Julien is also in the base, and he watches Alice still dancing and singing on the TV while angrily expressing disbelief that the people voted for her instead of him. Turning to the TV, the penguins and Marlene also watch in shock and amazement as Alice dances and slaps her butt. To this, Kowalski covers Private's eyes.
